  4. Qualifications:

    University of Toronto graduate student. Students with Information studies or East Asian subject background preferred. Excellent reading and writing proficiency in at least one of the East Asian languages including Chinese (modern and classical Chinese), Japanese and/or Korean. Knowledge of Library of Congress Romanization schemes. Good oral and written English communication skills. Knowledge of computer applications and some experience with programming, desktop publishing, digital humanities, and web designing are desirable. Strong service orientation. Demonstrated good work performance and attendance record. Experience in the use of University of Toronto Library catalogue, SIRSI and WorldCat, electronic and other resources. Ability to do detailed work with speed and accuracy, and to complete work assignments promptly and accurately with minimal supervision. Proven ability to interact and work effectively with staff and public.

  5. Duties:

    (1) Provide support for high quality East Asian Studies information services.
    Under supervision, this group of assignments involves participating in providing reference services, assistance in library technical instructions and resource teaching, and assistance with special library projects. Helps to support EAL virtual reference and social network technology to promote awareness of resources. Assists in giving tours, library instructions and preparation of special information sessions on CJK e-resources. Helps to maintain the reference collection and enhance access to special collections. Support EAS resource sharing for faculty and students on 3 campuses. Assists in exchange activities with other academic libraries.

    (2) Provide support for Research services.
    Under supervision, this group of assignments includes participating in providing research assistance to users, support the preparation of special exhibitions, library publications, workshops, lectures and other collaborative events with faculty and community, to support and facilitate teaching, research and communication with 3 campuses. Helps to maintain and improve East Asian library home pages and accessibility to East Asian e-resources on the web.

    (3) Assists in special library projects.
    Under supervision, this group of assignments involves digitizing valuable resources, creating databases to preserve and improve access to unique research materials and providing assistance in processing materials. Other related duties may be assigned.
