  4. Qualifications:

    a. Required:
    University of Toronto graduate student, Faculty of Information preferred, with:
    - Ability to search the UofT Library catalogue, bibliographic databases, and the internet using advanced searching techniques
    - A strong service orientation and an ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public and other staff members
    - Previous public service experience
    - Highly motivated, showing initiative and willingness to learn
    - An understanding of, or willingness and commitment to learn, issues important to health science librarianship, such as point-of-care information tools, current awareness strategies, database instruction, knowledge syntheses, journal packages, predatory publishing, grey literature, study design protocols, and the scientific publication cycle
    - Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technology tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information
    - Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English
    - Good work performance, attendance record, ability to work with minimal supervision and to take direction

    b. Strongly preferred:
    - Experience and/or training in searching health science databases (e.g. PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL)
    - Experience or involvement conducting in-depth research, preferably literature reviews or critical summaries of the literature
    - Demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible, self-motivated and take initiative on projects

    c.Desirable:
    - Technical skills desired, including: Libguide editing and creation, HTML, CSS, Drupal, and LibraryH3lp
    - Demonstrated capacity or understanding on responsible and effective social media usage, such as Twitter, blogs, Facebook, Google+, among others
    - Previous teaching experience
    - Some experience with video, and/or infographic creation software such as, PowToon, Piktochart, or Camtasia
    - Experience using Excel or other software to gather and analyze statistics

  5. Duties:

    The successful candidate will work closely with librarians at Gerstein on a variety of projects, including but not limited to: assisting with the 3D printing and virtual reality training sessions, design and creation of digital tutorials and other learning objects, updating or creating research guides, assessing collection information and reference statistics, participating on research projects in support of new library services, conducting or reviewing literature searches, promotion and outreach activities, and other activities as required, including provision of high quality reference and catalogue information service on weekends, weekday mornings, afternoons and/or evenings. The successful candidate will play an active and informed role in project selection and all efforts will be made to ensure the graduate student library assistants gain valuable work experience in a variety of areas. There will be opportunity to continue the position into the 2019-2020 academic year.
