    Student Library Assistant (SLA)

  4. Qualifications:

    University of Toronto student.
    Superior visual accuracy and attention to detail.
    Good physical strength and flexibility (i.e. able to lift, carry, and push moderately heavy things, as well as
    reach overhead and crouch at ground level.
    High tolerance for dust.
    Good attendance and performance record.
    Strong service orientation.
    Good oral English communication skills.
    Effective when working independently and
    with others.
    Desirable:
    Knowledge of the University of Toronto libraries.
    Work experience in a library setting.
    Previous experience shelving using LC and/or CODOC systems.

  5. Duties:

    Shelving, tidying, and maintaining public areas.
    Retrieving library materials from Robarts’ storage area.
    Collection maintenance work including:
    Processing materials that will be added to or removed from the collection.
    Ensuring that materials are ordered properly.
    Shifting materials in the collection.
    Assisting staff members with special projects.
    Helping library patrons locate materials and services.
    Other duties as required.

  6. Hours per Week:
    Shifts are four hours long up to a maximum of 24 hours per week.
  7. Hourly Rate:
    $16.98, $17.49, $18.19, $18.86, $19.57
