  4. Qualifications:

    Summary: This role supports the initiatives of the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) Technical Skills Outreach Project. This project promotes foundational computational literacy and technical skill development across the three campuses of the University of Toronto (U of T) by providing instructors, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, librarians, staff and researchers access to practical pedagogical skills and by supporting initiatives that proactively welcome participation of novice technical skill learners. The Project will achieve this by:

    1) Providing targeted Carpentries Instructor Training (a program that teaches people how to teach foundational technical skills) based on identified needs;

    2) Supporting targeted technical skill acquisition initiatives anticipated to emerge from project activities;

    3) Developing a tri-campus instructor support group through a series of outreach activities.

    This project builds upon the success and outcomes of the 2019 Innovation Grant project, “The Carpentries at the University of Toronto,” and aims to showcase UTL as encouraging teaching and learning foundational technical skills across the tri-campus. By having access to Instructor Training and a supported and sizeable instructor network at U of T, engaged units are empowered to embed computational literacy and technical skills development in their programs in flexible, local-context-specific, and inclusive ways.

    Qualifications:

    *University of Toronto graduate student

    *Excellent oral and written English skills

    *Experience managing social media accounts for organization

    *Ability to self-motivate and prioritize time-sensitive deadlines

    *Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook)

    *An interest and passion for learning and pedagogy

    *Assist in the development of a strategic plan for a future initiatives and partnerships

    *We are interested in hiring people with flexibility, enthusiasm, professionalism, motivation, and initiative

    *Applicants should be detail‐oriented, good at multi-tasking, and able to work independently, as well to work productively in a team environment

    *Experience in event planning preferred

    *Familiarity with The Carpentries or similar community of practice required

  5. Duties:

    Under general supervision, provides administrative assistance to the UTL Technical Skills Outreach Project, a tri-campus initiative supported by the 2021-2022 Chief Librarian’s Innovation Grant.

    Assists the project team with building community connections through a variety of means including social media

    Monitor and analyze social media channels and activity with community partners

    Assists with planning and supporting events

    Responds to inquiries from U of T and external community members

    Works with project team to identify stakeholders and develop partnerships

    Assist with planning and supporting planned and emerging training events across the three campuses as needed

  6. Hours per Week:
    Flexible (for a total contract of approximately 90 hours)
  7. Hourly Rate:
    $26.53, $27.32
