Qualifications:
Must be a University of Toronto student. Work will be performed onsite at the Bora Laskin Law library. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Previous experience in circulation services and customer service are assets. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively, in person and on the telephone, with the public and other staff. Keyboarding and basic equipment troubleshooting skills (photocopiers, printers, scanners, and computers) required. Ability to shelve books and push book trucks. Some heavy lifting may be required. Familiarity with the university, the library and on-line services desirable. Experience with the LC Library of Congress classification system is an asset. Demonstrated good work performance, attendance and punctuality. Must be flexible with regards to scheduling, and must be able to work as a backup on short notice.
Duties:All work will be required to be performed onsite at the Bora Laskin Law library. Under general supervision, will assist patrons at the Service Desk with checking in and signing out materials, processing fines, basic troubleshooting of library equipment, and responding to patron inquiries. Responsible for shelving books, shelf-reading, shifting collections, scanning and other project work as assigned. Some heavy lifting may be required. May be required to perform clerical functions such as filing, opening and sorting mail.
Please note that during the pandemic, the University continues to monitor public health guidelines as they relate to libraries and work closely with the University’s Environmental Health and Safety Office and other campus officials. As such, hours cannot be guaranteed if public health and university health and safety guidelines limit access to libraries and buildings.
