  4. Qualifications:

    1. Current or incoming University of Toronto Graduate Student, with iSchool students in the Library and Information Science concentration preferred
    2. Demonstrated strong customer service orientation
    3. Highly reliable and able to commit to working consistent shifts
    4. Must value equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility
    5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and without direct supervision
    7. An interest in health sciences librarianship, including a willingness and commitment to learn issues important to health science librarianship
    8. Demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible, self-motivated, and take initiative on projects
    9. Experience with, or willingness to learn about providing reference services virtually and in-person

  5. Duties:

    The Gerstein Science Information Centre is Canada’s largest health sciences library and the second largest library in the University of Toronto Libraries system. Gerstein librarians and staff serve health sciences faculties and departments at the University, including medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and public health, among others.

    In this position, you will work collaboratively within the Gerstein Library team to create a welcoming and user-centered experience at our Virtual Reference Desk and participate in library projects and initiatives. You will have the opportunity to develop unique skills and knowledge required for working in health sciences libraries.

    As a member of the Gerstein Library team, you will have responsibilities such as:

    1)Delivering high-quality assistance to our patrons through Gerstein’s virtual, in-person, and chat reference services
    2) Assisting users with health science specific questions, such as database searching, reference management, and other troubleshooting
    3) Designing and creating educational materials including tutorial videos, interactive modules and other learning objects
    4) Participating in the delivery of information literacy instruction
    5) Updating or creating research guides using LibGuides
    6) Supporting librarians working on the Systematic & Scoping Review Collaboration
    7) Collaborating with colleagues to create, deliver, and evaluate library events, outreach activities, and programming
    8) Engaging with 3D printing, virtual reality, and other emerging technologies
    9) Completing other special project work as assigned

    8-15
  7. Hourly Rate:
    $28.24, $29.07
