- Previous customer service experience / experience working in a library
- Working knowledge of Microsoft O365 (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Able to push book carts, lift and carry moderately heavy materials (25 – 40 lbs.), and reach / crouch to shelve books
- Spoken fluency in one or more additional languages

Duties:
The University of Toronto Libraries is the largest academic library system in Canada and consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The John P. Robarts Library and Robarts Common support the teaching, learning, and research of University of Toronto students, faculty, staff, and scholars in the social sciences and humanities. The User Services Department partners with students, faculty, and staff as they pursue their paths to becoming creative and thoughtful scholars, learners and citizens. As a team, we are committed to igniting and amplifying our community’s academic curiosity, encouraging dialogue, and providing essential context for critical engagement.
As a member of the User Services Department at the Robarts Library, you will help to create a safe, welcoming, accessible, and user-centered space for University of Toronto students, staff, faculty, and alumni, as well as the broader research community. As someone dedicated to providing outstanding customer service, you will:
- Proactively approach users to provide information and answer questions about the library and its services
- Assist users at the service desks with quick questions, for example: Where do I find this book? Who can I speak to about my research paper? How can I book a group study room?
- Help users sign out books, renew, return, and sort materials
- Assist users with finding materials as you are shelving and relocating materials
- Preparing materials for transfer between libraries
- Apply barcodes and labels, and update item records in the library catalogue
When you aren’t assisting users or helping to maintain the library collections, you will work on special projects.
Punctuality and dependable attendance are important to succeed in this role.This role offers training and will provide you with the opportunity to further develop your customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills. You’ll also acquire valuable experience working in an academic library, and supporting students, staff, and faculty in a university teaching and research environment.

Hours per Week:Up to 24 hours per week. Minimum 2 shifts a week. The Robarts Library is open 7 days a week, until 10pm or 11pm daily. This position may include daytime, evening, or weekend shifts.
