  4. Qualifications:

    The University of Toronto Libraries is seeking a creative, digitally savvy, and highly motivated graduate student to join our team as the Content Creator & Communications Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA). In this dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to craft compelling and visually engaging content for our social media channels, website, and internal newsletters. Your work will play a vital role in elevating the libraries' presence, showcasing our diverse collections, and highlighting the incredible people who make our libraries a vibrant hub of knowledge and discovery.

    As a Content Creator, you’ll support storytelling efforts by creating multimedia content that resonates with our community—developing social media campaigns, producing video content, writing articles, and designing graphics. You’ll collaborate with librarians, archivists, and other professionals across the university, gaining insights into the diverse functions of academic libraries and higher education communications. Additionally, you’ll occasionally support communications-related administrative tasks, broadening your experience and skill set.

    This role is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student looking to build a strong portfolio in content creation, design and communications.

    Qualifications:

    - Must be a University of Toronto graduate student

    - Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills.

    - Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail.

    - Creativity and a passion for communications, especially within a library setting, with an interest in highlighting library collections and resources.

    - Proficiency with various social media platforms, content creation tools, and editing programs.

    - Proficiency with standard office tools such as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

    - Enthusiasm for and ability to quickly learn new technologies.

    - Ability to work independently and manage projects from assignment through completion.

    Preferred qualifications:

    - A passion for helping fellow students discover new resources, spaces, and communities.

    - In-depth understanding of social media platforms, particularly TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, and Instagram.

    - Experience writing and creating content for newsletters, social media posts, and other communication materials.

    - Experience in social media management and/or graphic design.

    - Familiarity with newsletter tools such as MailChimp, design tools like Canva, video editing software such as CapCut, and social media management platforms like Hootsuite and Later.

    - Experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing, or a related field.

  5. Duties:

    Responsibilities may include:

    Content Creation:

    - Develop and execute engaging social media campaigns across Instagram, Threads, TikTok, and X platforms, aligning with the library's brand and goals.

    - Create a variety of compelling content, including images and written posts, to showcase the library's collections, services, and events.

    - Write, edit, and distribute library newsletters.

    - Collaborate with librarians, archivists, and other stakeholders to develop engaging storytelling narratives.

    - Utilize design software to produce high-quality visual content.

    Communications Support:

    - Assist in the development and implementation of communications strategies and campaigns to enhance the library's visibility and reputation.

    - Provide support for internal and external communications, including writing, editing, and proofreading content.

    - Manage and maintain the library's social media channels, ensuring timely and effective engagement with the audience.

    - Assist with the design and development of promotional materials, such as posters, flyers, and digital graphics.

    - Contribute to the planning and execution of library events and initiatives.

    - Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, and filing.

    - Provide support for the communications team on various projects as needed.

    - Other related duties as assigned.
