  4. Qualifications:

    Job Description:

    Scholarly communications and copyright issues are rapidly evolving, impacting the research, teaching and learning activities of every member of the University of Toronto community. 

    The Scholarly Communications and Copyright Office (SCCO) provides comprehensive services to support scholarly publishing, open scholarship, and copyright education across the university. The SCCO is looking for a student to assist with ongoing office activities, particularly in supporting the institutional repository (TSpace) and Journal Production Services. 

    Required Qualifications:

    - Must be a University of Toronto Graduate student, Faculty of Information preferred

    - Basic understanding of the principles of open access publishing

    - Knowledge of and experience with metadata creation/editing (preferably in Dublin Core)

    - Demonstrated commitment to the values of equity, inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility; proven ability to promote respect and inclusion by working successfully with a wide variety of people and encouraging their participation and involvement 

    - Excellent oral, written, and web-based communication skills 

    - Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail 

    - Ability to manage workflow, projects, and multiple tasks while meeting deadlines 

    - Highly motivated; ability to work well independently once projects are assigned 

    - Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including the ability to deal effectively with faculty and staff; strong service orientation

    - Proven ability to use (or quickly learn) a variety of technological applications, including Microsoft Office, content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal or LibGuides, and other web-based platforms  

    - Demonstrated ability to find approaches and solutions to specific and complex problems

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    - Knowledge of DSpace repository platform

    - Basic understanding of copyright law and intellectual property principles related to scholarly publishing 

    - Experience in communications and writing/editing  

    - Experience with editorial work or publishing (e.g. in a student journal)

    - Understanding of web and document accessibility principles

  5. Duties:

    Duties:  

    - Under general supervision, the candidate will perform duties related to the institutional repository, TSpace, including: ongoing copyright permission analysis, accessibility remediation, deposit of materials, and the review of submissions by others.

    - Respond to inquiries related to TSpace, Journal Production Services, and open publishing discounts

    - Maintain and create resources for journal editors of library-hosted academic journals

    - Maintain, update, and enhance web content related to the SCCO including the creation and maintenance of research guides and other communications and informational resources

    - Work closely with SCCO librarians to develop resources specifically designed for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty  

    - Provide assessment support and analysis of ongoing projects 

    - Provide program and event support for new and ongoing SCCO initiatives, such as (but not limited to) Open Access Week, Fair Dealing Week, and and other SCCO outreach initiatives

    - Attend and present project work and initiatives to library committees and working groups, as required  

    - Duties may include direct communication with faculty, students, departmental staff, and publishers

    - Other related duties as assigned
