    Graduate Library Assistant (GSLA)

    Earth Sciences Library

    September 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027
  4. Qualifications:

    Required qualifications:
    • A University of Toronto graduate student enrolled for Fall 2026; Faculty of Information students preferred
    • Strong customer service skills and a commitment to providing excellent service
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with library users and staff
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Intermediate computer skills, including email, Excel, searching the library catalogue, and using electronic databases with advanced search techniques
    • Basic equipment troubleshooting skills (computers, printers, scanners, photocopiers)
    • Demonstrated initiative, willingness to learn, and reliability, including good work performance, attendance, and punctuality

    Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience working in a library
    • Experience in a customer service role
    • Research experience, including literature searching and information retrieval
    • Experience using an ILS (Integrated Library System)
    • Background or demonstrated interest in Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Forestry, Botany, Biology, or related disciplines

  5. Duties:

    • Provide research assistance to students and faculty. Assist users in identifying information needs and locating library resources. Answer questions about library resources and services in person, by email, or by phone using the library catalogue, research databases, online library resources, web searches, and other tools
    • Maintain research guides and related library resources
    • Assist with library activities, events, and other engagement initiatives, as required
    • Process library materials, conduct shelf reading, and shift collections as required
    • Open and close the library, as required
    • Special projects and other duties as assigned

    The successful applicant will be required to work on-site (St. George Campus)
