  4. Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications
    • Must be a University of Toronto student
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to conduct research as required
    • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently
    • Experience working with XML and CSV files, as well as coding languages such as Python
    • Ability to carry books between building floors (no heavy lifting required)
    Preferred Qualifications:
    The following is a list of other skills and experiences that would be useful for this position. We do not expect to hire someone who has all of these skills, and will provide training to the successful candidate.
    • Familiarity with bibliographic metadata standards (e.g. MARC, Dublin Core, ONIX, and BITS) and editing tools such as Oxygen XML Editor, MARCEdit, and Visual Studio Code
    • Ability to accurately track work and effectively communicate progress with team members; familiarity with project management tools such as Jira
    • Experience contributing to open-source projects on GitHub or Gitlab
    • Interest in academic libraries, electronic resource management, and digital accessibility

  5. Duties:

    The successful candidate will support quality assurance, accessibility, and content delivery operations of Scholars Portal’s digital content platforms including Scholars Portal Books, and the Accessible Content ePortal (ACE).
    Responsibilities include:
    • Perform quality assurance reviews of electronic book content to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency
    • Identify, investigate, and correct eBook metadata and content errors within Scholars Portal Books and related systems
    • Conduct testing and validation of content loading processes, troubleshooting errors, omissions, and other content issues
    • Contribute to workflow optimization initiatives, including the development of improved logging, monitoring, and content processing pipelines
    • Perform metadata reconciliation using CSV, XML, and other data files to verify content coverage and ensure holdings are complete and accurate.
    • Assist with improving the representation of Scholars Portal collections in external Knowledgebases through data review and python automation
    • Assist with the operation of the Accessible Content ePortal (ACE) through metadata creation and correction as well as occasional delivery of materials within Robarts Library as required (no heavy lifting involved)
    • Assist with other metadata and content related projects, as they arise
    This position offers experience in digital library services, metadata quality control, accessibility initiatives, and the management of large-scale scholarly content platforms.
