Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
• Must be a University of Toronto student.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills and ability to conduct research as required
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
• Demonstrated experience working with XML and CSV
Preferred Qualifications:
The following is a list of other skills and experiences that would be useful for this position. We do not expect to hire someone who has all of these skills, and will provide training to the successful candidate.
• Experience working with coding languages including Java and XSLT and environments such as Visual Studio Code or Eclipse
• Familiarity with bibliographic metadata standards (e.g. MARC, Dublin Core, ONIX, and BITS)
• Ability to accurately track work and effectively communicate progress with team members; familiarity with project management tools such as Jira is an asset
• Experience contributing to open-source projects on GitHub or Gitlab
• Interest in academic libraries, electronic resource management, and bibliographic metadata -
Duties:
The successful candidate will support quality assurance, and content delivery operations of the Scholars Portal’s Journals platform.
• Perform quality assurance reviews and metadata editing of electronic journal content to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency
• Evaluate serials holdings for changes in title history, publisher, or Open Access status
• Follow established workflows for consolidating holdings and making metadata changes, including running automated programs in Jenkins, and maintaining mapping files
• Perform metadata reconciliation using CSV, XML, and other data files to verify content coverage and ensure holdings are complete and accurate.
• Contribute to ongoing programming and automation initiatives, including Java version upgrades and the enhancement of digital preservation systems.
• Assist with other metadata and content related projects, as they arise
This position offers experience in digital library services, metadata quality control, serials management, and the management of large-scale scholarly content platforms. -
