Qualifications:
• Current graduate student at the University of Toronto
• Preference will be given to students with academic or professional interests in East Asian Studies, Information Studies, Book History, Architecture, Art History, preservation and conservation, material culture, or related fields
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to perform detailed work efficiently and accurately
• Good organizational and communication skills
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work carefully with rare and fragile library materials
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with library staff
• Strong commitment to the values of equity, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility
• A track record of good work performance and attendance

Duties:
The primary responsibility of this position is to support the preservation of the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library's rare book collection.
Working under the supervision of East Asian Library staff and in collaboration with the University of Toronto Libraries’ Bindery Unit, the GSLA will:
• Assist Bindery Unit staff with preservation work on East Asian rare books
• Handle rare and fragile library materials carefully in accordance with established preservation procedures
• Construct custom enclosures for rare and fragile materials according to technical instructions and procedures provided by Bindery Unit staff
• Perform other related duties as assignedNOTES:
• The successful applicant will be required to work on-site (campus)• The selection process for eligible and qualified candidates will include an interview, a test or exercise, and reference checks
